''Written and presented by Jacques Peretti, Michael Jackson's Secret Hollywood lifts the lid on how the weird world of Hollywood really operates behind-the-scenes. For the first time since Jackson’s death, key players – including his lawyer, agent, private eye, a former classmate and personal spiritual advisor - shine a fascinating light, through Jackson, on Hollywood’s hidden underbelly.

Peretti (The Rise and fall of Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson: What Really Happened and The Last Days of Jackson) gains unprecedented access to some of the people who really pull the Hollywood strings. He offers a rare glimpse into the Hollywood behind the smog and shows that Jackson, far from weird, was a perfectly normal Hollywood customer. He demonstrates how the machine created to service the star, ultimately, destroyed him.

Made up of Rasputin-like figures working behind-the-scenes, Hollywood is designed to manage and control every aspect of daily life, and when necessary, make very big problems disappear. This is the deadliest circle of the Hollywood infrastructure, populated by private investigators and gangsters. According to private eye Paul Baressi, who is known as The Enforcer and has worked for a string of Hollywood greats including Jackson: “The Hollywood underbelly stinks, it reeks.”

Attorney, Brian Oxman, describes the bare-faced stealing and power struggles amongst Jackson’s entourage: “The greed, the theft that was taking place around him was so enormous.” He also points to the people that directly led to the child abuse allegations in the city where “…everything has a connection with the porn industry.” As Jackson approached death - addicted to medication - he entered the hidden world of rehab. Howard Samuels - rehab doctor to stars including Lindsay Lohan - opens the doors of his clinic for the first time to give a taste of chemical dysfunction Hollywood-style.

In Hollywood, cults like the scientologists are not what we think. When often your own family, let alone your entourage, will sell you down the river, Peretti argues that cults are not a crackpot side effect of becoming famous but a sensible insurance policy. The film explores Tom Cruise's career from the inside and concludes the complete opposite of what you’d imagine.

But Hollywood demands a happy ending and 'Death agent' Mark Roestler shows there's life in Jackson yet. With a client list unlike any other, Roestler masterminds the post-death careers of the deceased – from Monroe to Elvis - and makes more money from celebrity corpses than living stars could ever dream of.

    Director: Mark Rossiter
Written and presented by Jacques Peretti
    Executive Producer: Peter Grimsdale
    Production Company: Fresh One Productions
    Commissioning Editor: Hamish Mykura''
